Hello all.
Whats the correct or best fitting to use for the clamping of the sill to outer body moulding. Are stainless steel button heads ok or sould it be high tensile steel set screws or bolts, any advice welcome.

Ian,
I’ve seen comments recommending HT bolts and I would always use these for safety critical areas. However, these bolts are holding the sill to fibreglass which is far weaker than steel so I have used stainless. It isn’t as strong as HT steel but it is stronger than fibreglass and I suspect that it may compare well with rusted HT steel in a few years time!
I have used metric bolts along the sill joint (much more readily available and cheaper than Imperial) and I’ve used penny washers to spread the load on the fibreglass. I suspect this gives more strength than the original design.
For the mounting plates on the inside, I’ve stuck with HT bolts, stainless and mild steel don’t mix well (the thread can pick up) and I think the strength is important here.

I agree with Mike on all points. That is how I fitted Spyder replacement sill reinforcements to my +2.
Hello mike/russ
Thanks i had come to the same conclusion about the stainless steel /ht steel issue . But if in doubt ask.
