Befor I buy Susan Millars front shocks & springs ,which need assembley, how easy is it to do ?I have the use of a press
It’s not hard to do but you do need a proper tool. I made one a few years ago and have just finished using it again. It consists of a small frame made of 3/4" angle stock that sits on top of the shock/spring and another that grabs the coil low down on the spring. Two 3/8" all-thread rods connect the two. When the nuts are screwed down the top frame compresses the spring and the shock flange protrudes through the frame enough to allow removal of the retainer ring. Then the nuts are backed off and voila, the thing is apart. Mine is a bit less beefy than the one in Brian Buckland’s book but strong enough for this job. See his book for good pictures if you have it.
I’ve been trying to add a picture of my rig to this but it doesn’t seem to be working. If you like, I could e-mail one to you.
