S4 Elan Seat Recovering Kits from Newton Commercials

I am buying these recovering kits from Newton Commercials via Sue Miller and recruiting a trimmer to fit them. Both trimmers I have spoken to want to know, do they fit and does the kit include all that is needed?

Has anyone bought and used these kits and can answer the question?

I am looking to do the same, albeit late S3 seats. TIA

The Newton commercial kits are very comprehensive and include new seat foams, they definitely fit. Assuming your seat frames, springs etc are in good order then it’s straightforward to fit new covers there are very detailed instructions included, in fact you can download them from their website.Link to Newton commercial elan seat covers

Your frames /springs etc might need repair which may not be a service offered by your trimmer.

I would recommend having the frames blasted and powder coated before recovering. Oncestripped you can check for cracks or bad springs on the frames and once coated you can forget rust etc. Had mine done prior to retrim and very pleased as a couple of springs needed replacing which I did myself ready for the trimmer.

Tony,

Thanks for the advice, metal work has been blasted repaired and powder coated.

Spyder Fan,

Thanks for the advice about Newton Commercials. Although I have looked at their web site I had not noticed the fitting instructions, I think this answers my question.

Stress Crax,

I will try to remember and report how I get on.

No probs Richard, hope it goes well.

Not had any experience of fitting the covers as they don’t do plus 2 covers unfortunately but I’ve seen some of the mini and Vw bus covers and they look very good, I’d have no qualms using them rather than having a scratch built retrim myself, if they did what I want…. :slightly_frowning_face:

Hi Richard,

The fitting instruction are as a PDF in this link on the right hand side:

I have attached a copy.

Richard,

If you haven’t already seen it there’s a video on Youtube that describes the Elan seat retrim.

Mike,

Thanks for enclosing the video which I hadn’t seen before. Always good to see what someone else has done, his use of tie wraps looks like a good idea, easier to use than wire.

I have a few broken seat springs on my seats. Where did you source replacements from?
