I’m trying to do something that should be pretty straight-forward: reinstall my door handles after a paint job. I can’t seem to figure out how the linkage between the door handle/release mechanism hooks up to the latch. There don’t seem to be any diagrams in any of the books/manuals.
I’m assuming the pivot mechanism points upwards, and I’m quite certain the link attaches to the ‘slotted’ attachment, and I have a two of the ‘link’ pieces.
I know this is a lot to ask.
Sorry, can’t tell you exactly what goes where. But there should be 2 short linkages. 1 goes to the latch & 1 to the lock.
The longer slotted lever connects to the catch mechanism. Unfortunately both of the wires look similar but are different.
It’s a rotten soddin’ job. Long nosed pliers, a screwdriver & a magnet on a stick to pick up the fallen off clips from the bottom of the door.
There’s a fairly good picture of the system in the Service Parts List.
Section BJ page B9.
I could scan it & PM it if nobody else can offer simpler help.
Good luck
John
