The shop manual says ‘remove the cam followers with the aid of a valve grinding tool…’
Will I really need this tool when I pull those cams up? Can I get along without?
Thanks.

It will make your life a lot easier!
A cheaper option is a toy bow and arrow set with rubber suction cup arrows.
You do not technically need the bow.
But I have this wonderful image of Robert standing over his engine trying to shoot his cam followers.

Use a magnet.
Bluetack…
the valve lapping stick with the suction cups works well -and its cheaper than a bow and arrow AND you wont have the natives demonstrating on your lawn for defaming thier culture–ed-
