Propshaft Removal

I understand the propshaft can be removed with the gearbox (4 speed) and engine in situ. Anyone done it recently?

I understand the propshaft has to go through the chassis hole with the gearbox resting at the bottom of the hole. It looks rather tight, and I have a modified chassis from the 80’s with strengthening fillets on the shock towers.

I do not know if the chassis hole that the gearbox goes into is smaller than standard :cry: . Does anyone have measurements on this hole for the standard lotus +2 chassis?

I’ve removed one on an Elan S4 in situ, it was easy. The trick is guiding the splines back in to the trans. There’s an access hole under the carpet with a rubber plug on the side of the bodyshell, by the right side seat next to the trans,(on a LHD car). I’d guess a +2 would be the same. Good Luck.
