Plus two front calipers

Hi, guys i’m new to the forum, but I have recently purchased a 1972 plus 2 130/5 - with a metal flake roof!, I have changed the chassis and am working my way through the mountain of parts that need help, however the front calipers are tight and after stripping one of them the pistons are decayed, can someone please point me in the right direction for some stainless ones that are reasonably priced. Also I need a starter ring gear.

For interest, I purchased off ebay a new remote brake servo for 65 pounds the other day, its made in the UK (how rare!). so if you need one and you’re not to bothered by the originality police look there, its an MGB dealer flogging them.

Thanks
Glen

Hi Glen…I’ve gone to Classicar Automotive for all brake bits for many years…they know Elans inside out.

They will sell you the parts, or refurbish anything to do with brakes to a very high standard.

For folks in the U.S. try John Farrell

Hi Glen, Plus 2 front Calipers are Girling 16P or 16PB. The later PB variants have better sealing for the dust cover and also available in metric or non metric varieties (for the threads).

Anyway, these were fitted to some Triumph models, eg GT6, so you can get reconditioned exchange calipers from Rimmer Brothers, Canley Classics etc. Rimmer do the stainless steel pistons. Otherwise I would highly recommend John Farrell. He also stocks stainless pistons for the Lotus Elan rear calipers

Hi

Please find the attached which may be of use to you ? this is the brakes section from my workbook

I am in the middle of developing a alternative parts listing for the Elan’s which I suppose is about 60% completed with cross referencing all the data and part numbers etc :open_mouth: , but have had very little support surprisingly form the Elan.net members (in fact 4 ONLY sent me any data)
