I had successfully removed my dented sill moulding ( the one below the door) basically by pressing from above, and unclipping it from the bottom, clip by clip. The old adage that replacement is the reverse seems not to be applying and I don’t want to damage anything. Any advice/tips/ tools on how to fit the new moulding back on the clips (which are the original riveted ‘J’ profile type, …Thx…Tony
PS I got the new mouldings from SJ Sportscars if anyone interested. They are high quality (non magnetic) stainless.
On my original cill strips, the ‘bung’ is just a small strip of black neoprene foam about 5/16" wide glued to the back of the strip and trimmed off flush with the ends.
Attached sketch from my notes should clarify.
Thanks…
However the original ones I have in my memory from back in the day ,which admittedly could be completely wrong, are more of a hard rubber/plastic material with a recess that pushed part way into the strip.
Hook it over the angled part of the clips, push other edge against curved part. If it won’t push on then try gentle taps with a rubber mallet or similar?
Just did mine with new stainless clips and new trimpiece.
Found the easiest way was to hook it over the top of the clip then give it a smart thump at a downward angle with the heel of my hand. Hand was a bit sore after doing both sides!
The end profile of the trim is not symmetrical - I hooked the smaller edge over the top.
