This car came to me in a disassembled state and as such is presenting some mysteries. Can anyone identify the pair of holes in the door to roof opening ? I see the countersunk holes are for the headliner bow retainers but these two plain holes have me baffled. There is a matching pair on the other side.
Sorry. The photo is from the outside of the car looking into the top of the door opening up towards the roof. Additionally the photo is rotated 90 degrees (just to make it more confusing).
It seems like we have identified the pair of holes as rivet holes for securing the courtesy light housings. I would still like to know what the third rivet on the housing goes to.
Assuming the meaning is the Purple/White wire riveted to the box or light?
The Purple/White forms the courtesy light ground loop, which includes one contact of the door switches and the dash switch in a loop. The lights typically come on if any of the multiple switches are closed to their Black ground (located on the other contact of each individual switch).
The courtesy light above the rear view mirror also has a multi position switch that allows only the single light to come on by grounding to it’s own Black.
Interesting as this courtesy light location is for the later cars; our Federal cars have the lights located on the C pillar panel.
HTH. Apologies if this is already obvious, but still beastly cold here! . Might help someone in the future searching the archives I guess.
