Regards to all. I know airboxes have been debated before on the forums and searching the archives has been hugely educational. But I wanted to know if anyone here has used one of the new Pipercross airboxes.
Visually at least the design of the box suggests that the breathing at the back of it would be improved, curing the main issue with the OE box. I am more curious than seriously considering fitting one, but my round type box is in need of TLC so the whole issue has been on my mind.
I cut the body down it?s length and glassed it to a parallel shape which is all you need to do with your existing box to resolve the #4 breathing concern.
A cover of FG tissue on the outside followed by a little rub down and a coating of semi-gloss paint and you have a professional looking job for little more than a tenner.
I have one. I have strombergs. Works great. All plugs nice and brown. I do have the bulge, but I don’t think that is where it hits. All I did was bend down the first tab and no issues whatsoever. Dan S4 Federal
Brian, that’s a really good idea. My father in law, who has an S4 and a Sprint, and I have been debating the whole airbox issue this week after we realised our three cars each had different kinds. I think I’ll order a spare box and we’ll do exactly what you suggest and try it out. Thanks.
Dan, thanks for that. It’s good to know someone has tried it as it seemed like a decent solution, certainly much quieter than socks.
Hi Whats the difference then between using the 600 series airbox, quoted at ?189 for the info I supplied and this one: demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ … e=P/CC6001
Seems like a replacememt for the airbox altogether with filter built in, for ?57?
Be interested to know anyone has used this.
Kind regards
Jeff

The one you’ve shown is a foam filter type - the one highlighted by Adi is a direct replacement for the standard hard air box that is fed by tube from the nose area.
With the foam type you will get all the induction noise - which some people really like.
Yes, that is an interesting alternative as well, very neat looking. But the noise is a concern for me as my wife and I are planning some touring in the car. Not that it’s ever quiet in an Elan, but every little bit helps…
I know, I know, you guys are entirely right, but every little excuse helps! My wife is already very much used to noisy cars though, our old Mini Cooper S was like an airplane on takeoff. I try not to remind her of that…
and it bolted right on. I have an S4, but the bump was irrelevant as the dome doesn’t align it. I did need to bend back the front most tab, but still works fine.
