Hi all
as mentioned in an earlier post, the oil pressure in my rebuild +2 twink is way over the scale.
This is of course not correct, and I need to source if the error is in the sender unit or in the gauge.
Is there a proof way of testing either of the parts, before I order new ones?
I have also considered rebuilding to mechanical oil pressure control, incl fitting a low pressure warning lamp, as kindly described by Sean Murrey.
If my electrical gauge or unit is faulty, I guess the price for rebuilding to mechanical control is not far more expensive than replace the current faulty items.
What say you, the guru’s of the TwinCam ?
If anything is faulty it’s most likely the sender unit.
search for this auction number on Ebay 130305222707 (cut and paste into an ebay search)it’s an old auction of mine for a sender unit but it shows the correct operation of the gauge and sender unit.
When you switch on the ignition the gauge should wake up a little and move over to zero, if it carries on going you have a fault with the wiring or the sender is shorting out.
If it wakes up and goes to zero and stays there, but when you start up the pressure reading goes above 60psi, don’t assume that the gauge is faulty as its likely that the pop off pressure valve in the oil pump is faulty or stuck… OR YOU HAVE A HIGH PRESSURE PUMP FITTED… sorry to shout but do you know what you have?
If you have fitted a standard pump, borrow a mechanical gauge and hook that up to see what the pressure really is, if its still way over 60psi, remove the pump and fit another.

You could also check the Voltage stabiliser for a good 10volts (also affects the fuel/temp gauges)…

The other gauges seems to work fine…
I’ll check all the things mentiones; hopefully the mechanical switch from my Marcos 3 litre will fit… (it’s not too easy to find parts for the british cars in norway, unfortunately; I buy 99% of the needed stuff from UK)
