Oil pressure gauge / heater pipe clash

Does anyone have a simple solution to the problem of the oil pressure gauge / heater pipe clash?

I see an offset heater pipe spigot is available, although expensive.

My cylinder block is tapped with a 1/4 BSP thread. I have a nylon oil pressure gauge hose which is kinked as it passes the heater hose. I’ve seen exactly the same issue on many other cars at various shows.

I’m thinking about using a banjo bolt arrangement, and adapting the banjo to accept a 1/8 NPT adapter into which the nylon pipe can be attached.

Just wondering if there were any other solutions out there?

Hi Bodmin,
My pipes dont interfere, although they may be just touching. The engine block was originally tapped NPT. Are you sure that it isnt that now, there is very little difference.
If so, can you use a female to male elbow fitting.
For clarity, the block is tapped NPT but the cylinder head being a wholly British design is BSP.

I have both the 90 degree fitting and a straight fitting and both go under the heater hose. Close,
but it clears.

Here’s my Oil pressure pipe & heater hose:

Here is what we did …

That looks like a great solution and exactly what has been running through my mind.

I’m still pursuing the banjo bolt option, but it doesn’t have the ‘elegance’ I desire.

I might purchase a sliding table for my lathe (in the absence of a milling machine), and look at machining a brass block similar to yours. You wouldn’t happen to have a sketch handy with the principal dimensions??

Thanks

Here’s the oil pipe that I purchased from Ray at R.D. Enterprises a number of years ago. His web site shows that he still stocks them.

I have the RD solution on mine now but what I took off also had a pipe bent thru 90 as well. The old plastic tube pressed over the pipe was the only reason I replaced it. It seemed somewhat brittle after 50+ years. Clean sheet I’d probably use the RD bent pipe with an appropriate rubber and steel braid hydraulic hose properly selected.

I have that setup on my car and it fouls the heater hose on my car. My block does have the 1/4" threaded hole rather the 1/8". I have swapped the supplied 1/8" fitting and 1/4" to 1/8" convertor to a 1/4" fitting but still have the same issue.

Fyi The bend is part of the hose not an extra part.
