Although I am presently working in Europe, I live in the US (Nashville) where I work (I will be back in September). I have three sons (9, 8 and 2), all of them interested in grease and classic British cars. We own an MG. My wife likes British cars also but she is not interested in anything happening in the engine compartment or under the car. Although she accompanies us to the shows, she prefers to drive her modern automobile full of cup holders and other amenities. It is a convenient arrangement since she carries all the spare parts, beverages, and food (and the baby) in her car when we travel to car events. We call hers, the ?support car.?
I have been reading this forum for a while and learned a lot from all of you. I do not have a lotus yet… but hopefully, I will. I have been looking for an Elan plus 2 for a year without much luck so far. I am not looking for a completely restored car but for a well kept one without chassis or engine related problems: a good driver, in sound mechanical condition and with a decent interior and paint (a 3 or a 3+, 70-79 points). I do not care much about power, but about the grace and elegance of the Elan plus 2. I know these cars keep you busy and that you need to take care of one thing after another (that?s part of the fun, right?.. these cars need us), but I do not want big issues. I have seen horrible cars for various prices, from US $2k to $10k (and no matter how cheap they are offered they all seem to me like long and painful nightmares). I am willing to pay for a good car, but for some reason they are not as common in the US. I have seen nice cars in England (more expensive than in the US), but they are right hand drive (I love British cars but I hate RHDs!)… I frankly do not want to import a car to the US and have to deal with that. So I will keep looking, saving, and reading your posts. Thanks!
Best,
Carlos
