title is self explanatory i guess, the rubber/tape strip emerged from under the fuel tank, and seems to have been stuck to the upholstery underlay. The threaded cup was found running around in the boot… it looks like a suspension top mount and had several markings on it from wrenches etc… any guesses?
The threaded cup screws into the top of the rear suspension damper tube to hold the damper in.
The other bit looks like a home-made ‘anti-vibration pad’ for something. You’ll find out what when you drive it and hear a rattling/squeaking…
What is the stuff stuck to the tape that is attached to the rubber? This may give a clue as to where it came from??
Taking a wild guess I’d say it was an ad-hoc attempt at a spacer stuck to the bottom of the parcel shelf to raise the shelf up off the fuel tank. The reason I say this is that my +2 doesn’t have the parcel shelf supports that are held in place by the rear window rubbers so I have a cunning piece of wood in place holding the shelf up against the base of the window…
The brown hairy stuff is bits of underlay, the piece in question emerged from under the fuel tank, so it might be a support to level it out. i have the little metal parcel shelf supports, however that does not discount the possibility that it might have fallen underneath during stripdown.
I have attached a photo of my alloy fuel tank. It was made slightly lower to accomodate the attached vent check valves. The cross piece with lightening holes is a Spyder rear shoulder harness conversion.
You should be able to see the straps. I used closed cell neoprene foam in lieu of the original jute padding.
the rubber straps are in place as shown in your pictures. ill have a look under the tank and see if there is anything that needs a spacer/rub protection etc
