Good Morning - I am new to the forum and have just purchased a 1971 DHC Sprint in Bahama Yellow and White (will post a few photos soon). Prior to that for a very short period I had a S4 DHC before being tempted by the Sprint. I have read the forum over the past year and found it very informative and helpful when buying my Sprint.
I have noticed a number of things on the Sprint in that it shows signs of fuel starvation on right hand corners whether the tank is full or not. Going round a right hander the car appears to run out of fuel but immeadiately picks up on the straights and does not show the same problem on left hand bends. Any Ideas greatly appreciated??
The car has a replacement alloy tank and a mechanical pump. On looking inside the airbox there seemed to be unspent fuel in the Weber Trumpets which didn’t happen on the previous car which had an electric pump.
Check your fuel pressure - usually a problem with electric pumps, but who knows? Check your needle and seat in the float bowls, as well as the levels of the floats. If the pressure is too high or the needle not seating properly, then you’ll get flooding, not starvation, but the result is the same - fluff, cough, fart, wheeze.

Check the LT leads on to coil and distributor If you think is is a supply prob to the coil hot wire the coil with a supply from the solenoid removing the wire first to prove , give the igntion key a wiggle could be the swaying of the keys and check the terminals on the back of the switch , some times & rare coils can brake down with car movement if they have leaked the insulating oil. Having given the electrical bent I think it could be the fuel levels in the carbs.

Thank you very much for the replies so far I will check carb levels and floats and will take the coil of my Mini Cooper and try that and see if that does anything
Does anyone have any theories in relation to why it only happens on right hand bends
I would check for a swinging wire forced out by centrifugal force --and may have chafed through the insulation and is shorting out on right hand turns ----ed
I set my last one at 1.5 and it was fine. This was with a filter King reg’ and elec’ fuel pump.
I am told that this is right and Z Strombergs will have problems with pressure up above about 4. There are I believe some rogue mech’ pumps about that produce more than they should.
oh —well when the car turns left whatever force causes the wire to float in what ever direction it takes may contact a metal object causing an intermittent short ---- do they have intermittent shorts and gravity in Australia ??? by the way --the world is flat -its a disc and its round -ed
we don’t have ashes in Canada either -alas we Canadians cannot wear shorts as we tend to suffer severe gravel rash from certain anatomy bits dragging on the ground while walking - -and summer comes on a wednesday each year -Advance Australia Fair -ed
I’ve heard about the water going hard in certain countries at certain times of year. It’s still winter here, yet it was 35.8 degrees (Celsius) yesterday - maybe I should move to Alaska. And the poms wonder why I don’t run a heater…
did you forget the minus sign on that 35 ???last winter I put the cat outside and she broke - -see pic of spring in Ontario --my old girl friend shared an apartment with 3 Aussies —they were really nice guys -ed
