Nice pictures , Thanks .
It’s good to have some news from the farwest side , sometimes !
Any chance to see these Elan’s - and the 23 - on track !?!
Christian.
I don’t have the camera and lense for track photos, Russ was there and may have some better pictures.
This is my lame attempt at “track action”. Dave in the mkIX at 5k rpm.
umm, not worth the effort to post…
Gary,
Very interesting pictures of Clarks S2.
Do the scrutineers not care very much about the radiator placement?
Could he put some elementary ducting from the air inlet to the radiator and from the radiator to the cut-outs in the wheel wells? This possibly could improvement airflow through the nose of the car. And if this flies, he could use a smaller radiator.
How much structural integrity does the fiberglass contribute at that area in the nose? He could have cut a matrix of square or round holes to get virtually the same airflow while retaining a modicum of the original stiffness in that region.

I dont think I would have left without the yellow elan —a little fiber glass on the wind shield surround and 600 dollars for a wind shield and the car could be a driver -restorati0on in progress car —ed
Hi Gary,
I was there on Tuesday for the W-154 unveiling … Had a nice chat with owner of the yellow Elan, although car was not yet there for viewing.

David,
I can’t recall anyone putting up a fight about radiators - the fluid inside , yes. how big or small you make them and where you place them ( given in the right spot on the car, if it was in the front keep there etc).
I have however seen people place a cross brace between the two front shocks when the use a small rad and move it forward into teh nose. - it also makes a nice place to hang a remote oil filter if you are running dry sump as well as the swirl pot/expansion tank .

Gary - Sorry, not too much help from me. I was in static Elite mode on Friday. Rob Burt’s ex-Bob Akin 1222, just in from his group’s first practice session.

George,
Good observation about bracing the front suspension towers.
When the Elan was introduced, I wondered about the design of the front and rear suspension towers. Not being braced and triangulated, they were obviously structurally suspect, as well as being heavier than necessary. This was not like the Chapman designer we had known in the past, but was obviously a commercial compromise for what was considered a non-racing vehicle.
History has shown the frame being stiffened by the addition of gussets and other less than optimum weight adding methods.
If the sanctioning organizations accept cross-bracing, TT and Spyder can design lighter weight and stiffer frames.
