Lightweight Spare?

With the fatter tires these days, the spare doesn’t fit into the boot of my S1 very well, and certainly doesn’t allow the cover to snap into place.

Is anyone aware of one of the goofy-looking lightweight, high-pressure spares commonly seen these days of the proper diameter that will fit on a Lotus hub?

If you’re going to carry a spare that doesn’t match, why not just have one with a narrower tyre :question:

Two things to consider.

First, as you have noted, the space in the boot for a spare is limited. Carry a standard width wheel and standard size tire. If the spare is needed, proceed slowly to the nearest tire repair place and everything will be ok, even if the tires are slightly mismatched.

Second, why carry a spare at all? It is the easiest 30 lbs you will ever save. I have not carried a spare for more than 30 years. It depends on your comfort level in dealing with a possible flat.

On the premise that I’m hardly ever going to need it, I bought the cheapest 145 tyre that they had in stock- came from Poland, max speed rating 90mph, which is OK for me. I’ve never used it but it came in handy on the way back from Le Mans last year when someone else had a puncture and found that his modern wider tyre fouled the spring perch. :smiling_imp:

I usually take a can of tyre weld in the back of the boot, saves space for spare fluids such as coolant and petrol and still enough room for a fortnight’s holiday worth of luggage :smiley:

here in chicago we call the cell phone the spare! :slight_smile:
