I am asking a question for a friend who is not vert internet savvy.
So excuse if my question doesn?t make sense as Im have to describe what?s been told to me! (get ready for a game of Chinese whispers!)
So the car is a Late plus 2 big valve with the 4 fuses where the ashtray is on the earlier models.
He has good vacuum but when he turns on the ignition the solenoid isn?t opening. A voltage applied direct to the unit will open it and the lights will pull down.
But he can?t think what he?s connected wrong for it not to work.
There solenoid is a simple 12v device, so if it works when tested it most likely to be a wiring issue.
There isn’t any micro switched it anything on the latter cars, so it a simple switched 12v circuit. If the ground is good then there must be a fault in the 12v side.
I’d check voltage at the solenoid with it disconnected and connected, much difference with connected and not would make we suspect a bad connection. No 12v would be wiring or switch fault.
The switch is bottom right of dash so easy to get at to test that.
Vacuum pipes connected wrong to Solenoid Valve. Putting electtrical supply to it should raise lights. No electrical supply to it leaves the port closed and starting Engine will create vacuum and pull lights down.
