I’m considering manufacturing some Knock on Hub extractors and offering them for sale to Lotus owners.
The item will be a universal design being LH threaded one end and RH threaded the other so it can be used on either side of the car, with just removal and replacement from the other side the reversable puller bolt through the middle. then see the picture PS: you’ll have to click on it to see it better, although is still not a good photo as the flash didn’t go off
Is there any interest in buying these here and direct or should I advertise the items on Ebay ?
I have been actually been in touch with CN and their product is of a different design, not sure how they are going to do it all I know is I asked them before submitting this to be sure I wasn’t stepping on their toes.
Anyway I cannot buy the steel stock bar and bolt for 12 quid ! so maybe its a none starter for anyone other than me
Stuart
Yep back in Vietnam (but its the place with some peace to get some more of the monster task as per title done !)
Its GROWING & Going pretty well now but the more I dig the more I find ( Yes Yes Yes I have heard the one about when in a hole to stop digging )
BUT I am gathering more and more info and since buying Omnipage software the conversion from JPEG or Adobe to Excel is getting easier.
I have the electronic listing from SJ Sprotscars & P.Matty but CN still ignoring my emails requesting their listing electronically but they’ll give in before me !
I have one of the CN hub extractors and I have to say that it works a treat - simple, well made, and perfectly effective. Bought it a couple of years ago, so I can’t remember the exact price, but ?12-odd sounds about right; I know that it was dirt cheap.
Not wishing to be pessimistic, but if you can’t even match their retail price on materials costs, you’re probably onto a loser.
…the correct tool should sleeve over the drive shaft thread and press the shafts shoulder, where the washer sits when bolted. Its driven by an old spinner. Drawings in the Ross/Robinshaw book.
Here is the tool I have used for a number of years although it wasn’t obtained from RD Enterprises and it didn’t cost more than ?15 if my memory hasn’t fused again.
Yep, the tool on Andrew’s link is essentially the same as the Chris Neil item that I have. I believe they do separate verisions for the Elan and Plus 2.
Some one suggested putting a piece of metal inside the hub and hammering the eared spinner on top, using the spinner to push the hub out, (obviously it would be a suitably turned up piece of steel not any old bit of pig iron!!!) Has any one else done this?
Ah Ha Now we have something that looks exactly like I have made, but the price on the web site is $100 + P&P so a bit more than 15 Quid !! We all get some memory loss as we get older and the brain has been well pickled and shaken about
If this is the same as CN then I’m surprised as their mail to me said theirs was a different design to the photo & description I’d sent them !
Anyway It looks like a none starter here But I’ll give it a bash on ebay and see how they go, I have committed to materials for making 10 of them anyway so we’ll see.
Although putting a peice of bar behind the spinner would have the same principlal effect I woudl certainly not agree with this as the brass spinner is going to end up deforming at best and cracking the chrome or at worst the end if the sopinner being pushing out which meens a new spinner.
Which I suppose I should advocate as then the tool would be a cheaper option than a new spinner !!
Looks like I’ll have to stay at work though ! not going to make my much sort after millions here then
have made up a batch of 10 “UNIVERSAL” ( I hope you like that term for the one tool doing both side !! Stuart’s comment gave me that idea )
Anyway for those of you interested I will not be able to post them of till about the 16 th Nov as I’m overseas till then (Its amazing how a few hours on the lathe offshore can pass the offshift hours !) and will have to get a postage price as they are fairly heavy at maybe 1lbs.
I suppose 25 pounds will be about the cost + P&P maybe total 29 pounds ish ?
I can now send a better photo of the actual item for those of you interested the remainder will go onto ebay, who knows what crazy money they may make on there
If you want a photo please email me as the sites quality doesn’t seem that good
I’ve got some drawings of the original Lotus one if anyone wants it. I did send it to Darren in Adelaide, as he said he had a mate with a machine shop who could knock it up. Universal BTW. and simple. ( like me)

If anyone else is interested please contact me as if not they are then going on Ebay and we all know what crazy prices can happen on there !!
As far as I’m aware they are the same size as when I bought new spinners as far as I can remember they were just listed as Elan 3 eared spinners ?
So this being the case then yes they will fit but if they are different then sorry
