K & N filter hits hood (bonnet)

As I continue to “shake down” my +2 I am encountering many problems. The latest being the front K & N filter hits the hood at the outside edge of the “bonnet bulge”. These filters are single round units.

I had the same issue with my 72+2 w/ strombergs, the front air filter rubbed against the edge of the bonnet bulge…my 'factory approved expediant" was to slightly crush the top of the front filter .It compresses the filter media a bit but solves the problem until I can trash these Strombergs for a weber head.

I am trying to avoid those types of fixes. I e-mailed K&N tech and have yet to get an answer. As usual the “usual suspect” parts sellers collectively shrug their shoulders.

I will now attempt to replace the original airbox and attach a “universal” cone or oval filter to the end of the intake air trunking. I will try to mount the new filter above the nose “floor”. Possible next to the radiator support.

piper cross do a flame proof sort of foam affair if you want to try them…
:open_mouth:

I contacted Piper Cross and ITG with a request as to whether or not they had a suitable filter. I noted my current difficulties. No reply.

It appears they may too have clearance problems.

I also wanted to know if they had a “hands on” parts dealer that would have the answer or get one. No reply.

Lotus Elan +2 market not large enough to waste time on.
