I have just put the body back on my S4. How do I get enough clearance from the footwell to be able to screw in the heater valve?
Do I really have to unbolt the engine mount and jack up the engine …
Thanks

Yes, unless you want to fit the heater valve in the temp gauge hole & vice versa
I was really tempted when I put my car back together
Drill the rivet out, screw it in then rivet the valve back on. I think there’s just enough clearance for the cast outpipe to rotate but not the valve itself.
Not necessarily, I’ve done it by simply jacking under the sump with the mounts still in place. Being rubber, they flex.
You need to be careful not to distort the mounts to the point where they split, though.
Bruce - I also have used the SadLotus method. Drill out the rivet, rotate valve 1/12 turn and remove it, and then unscrew the remainder of the valve. Works like a charm and allows you to see if any gunk has accumulated in the heater valve, which would prevent it from closing 100%. Takes about 5 minutes maximum.
