After putting the dash back in I have just noticed that two wires have come off the ignition switch. There is a single brown wire and a white/red wire.
Problem is I have 4 spare terminals on the switch and I don’t know where these two wires came from.
I tried connecting them like the wiring diagram but this resulted in the starter operating, car shooting down the garage (I’d left it in gear Doh!) and the only way top stop the starter was to turn off the battery master switch!
The diagram shows two brown wires going to a single terminal, a white/red wire, two white wires to another terminal and a yellow wire to another.
There are no numbers on the switch so I don’t know which terminals are used and which wires go where.
Can someone tell me where they go please, maybe even a photo?
Car is a late model +2S/130, 3 position ignition switch.
This is from (recent) memory (I’m not at home now) and assuming the basic layout of the switch is the same as on my S2: The terminals are in four groups, viewed clockwise (I THINK - don’t assume I’m correct) from the back of the switch.
Brown wires go to terminal group 1. Brown is unswitched, unfused power - basically the power supply for the car. One wire from the battery/control box etc, one wire to the light switch.
White wires go to terminal group 2. Switched, unfused power supply to those items that need it.
White/red goes to terminal 3. Controls the starter solenoid, as you discovered. You probably connected it where the brown wire to the lights should go, since that is live at all times.
Yellow (ACC) goes to terminal 4. Possibly feeding the radio. Your three-position (off, on, start) switch may actually be a four-position (accessory, off, on, start) switch. Mine is.
Don’t take this as gospel, but I hope it helps. And, make a small investment in an inexpensive multi-meter - it really helps in these situations.
Thanks Andrew - I got it figured out.
I got confused as to which brown wire I had took off and ended up moving the one that was in the correct position already.
Once I worked out which positions do what it all became clear - just had a bit of brain fade…
Cheers
