Fun in the water

Skidpan

Looks like you were having fun!

It is, when you’re not going anywhere, mine feels like all the wheels are falling off when it’s wet; aquaplanining, tramlinining & blocked brakes they all scare me —itless.
One day when I’m too old to Elan (not far off) I’ll swap mine for a boat they’re a bit more at home on the water.

John

John, at least you will to be able to stay with Colin’s engineering :unamused:

Know what you mean but I was thinking of when I’m really past it. :frowning:
A chug, chug, chugathing that would carry a couple of lobster pots & allow me to dangle a line over the side into the water.
Colin never got that slow
John

Looks like the skid pan at Kyalami circuit. I have had a few hours fun there myself :sunglasses:

You should really take the Elan for a blast around the track as well. IMHO it is the best track in the world. Taking the mineshaft flat out is a real test of your courage :open_mouth:

Yes Steve, you are correct, it is Kyalami and as for the “mineshaft”…been there…done that.
Although I have done it in the Elan I use to use the Seven for racing and the Elan for classic rallies.

Hmm… Got to get back out to Africa soon. I love overlanding, did the big loop: Through the Kruger, Zim, Botswana, Namibia and back. Of course no visit would be complete with out a few laps of Kyalami. I have a picture of me in a BMW 330 coupe on two wheels going round the mineshaft :sunglasses:

Tell me about it!..smell of the braai (BBQ/Barbie)…African sunset
(not my pic …but you get the idea

I hope they are better built than the cars, water leaks and bits dropping off out to sea would not be my idea of fun!! :paper bag: (gets coat and runs for the door!!!)

Mark

Here’s odd

I went to Hethel as a kid as my Dad arranged to see the Marauder post-boat show. Took my mum ages to find the place…and Dad didn’t show up!

Unfortunately it was found that principles which might be appropriate in motor-racing (reduce weight of every component) were found not be quite what was required on the Marauder and Moonraker boats. The sea can be a powerful adversary. I would be extremely surprised if there is even a single one of those fragile devices still afloat.

Cheers,
Pete.
