Just wanted to check that my thinking is right in that the rubber O ring is positioned between the ‘vertical upright’ and the caliper plate? If so it just seems a little sloppy?

I recall fitting an o ring in that position when I reassembled my front uprights a couple of years ago. It is a static seal so the quality of fit is not so important.
