Hi Guys,
Having whipped off the exhaust system to get at the coreplugs and paint the block, I had the chance to check again the condition of all the exhaust components. I am not sure how much longer the rubber ‘bobbin’ type insulated mounts holding the front box bracket ass’y to the body are going to last. I fear they are about to fail. There is no stress on them at all. The system was fitted with great care to make sure it was hanging nice and straight without stressing any of the mountings. The rearmost one has just a short length of rubber strap which is perfect, so I am thinking about using the same type of strapping on the front mount also. This would entail mounting the front bracket/plate direct to the body with a little silicone and two fastners, then hanging the strap from it to the front of the box. I think this will last longer as the ‘bobbins’ don’t seam to like any heat at all. My only concearn is producing even more exhaust noise amplified thro’ the boot space directly into my lugholes.
The little bugger is well loud enough. Tested on a local big bore boy racer ‘nover’ the other day going into our local multi story car park. He gave his tiddles the gun… brum brum … V nice! I revved the Elan and nearly blew him off the top of the building! He was well impressed. (He Jumped out of his shirt! Look on his face was a picture. Heh!!)
Respect… Here I go again. I digress…
What say you all. Do you think changing this would cause any prob’s? I don’t… Worth a try methinks.
Alex…
