Engine Mount Heat Shield

Here is a simple template for an engine mount heat shield. All I did was buy a small square of sheet metal at Home Depot (I’m sure Homebase has something similar). Cut it down to a 6.75" x 3" piece. Took 2 3/8" wide by 5/8" deep notches out of one side at 1" and after 2". Bent along the dotted lines to go over the top of the mount, bent the tabs and drilled holes that matched the mount. I’ll try to take a picture of the unit in place this weekend, but it looks very similar to the elanfactory unit. Now we’ll just have to see if it makes the mount last longer. Dan '70 S4 SE

This may be a bit crude compared to a fabricated piece but this is what was on the racecar - header-wrap material safety wired to the mount - no issues with the mounts but then again, low total hours run compared to a street car.

I haven’t got a picture of mine to hand but my first attempt was similar to the lotusmarques above, problem was it was just a simple single skin shield which would just absorb heat and get very hot. So i scrapped it and made one out of Ceramic Nimbus GII, it doesn’t look as pretty but there is a massive heat difference between the outer and inner surface temps… Don’t forget to make a shield for the Clutch slave cylinder too :wink:

One thing i would absolutely not make it out of is stainless… Ok Stainless may take longer to get hot but once it is hot it will transmit heat into the mount more or less the same as if it wasn’t there at all.

It’s 2 skins with an air pocket… strong (holds it’s shape) & light. I will see if I can get my hands on some material & make a heat shield from it.
