Electric Window Repair

The passenger side window on my '67 S3 won’t go up. The wire either broke or slipped off the track while I was driving the other day.

How do I fix this? I know I need to get the window assembly out of the car but don’t know where to start.

Anyone have instructions for doing this on an S3 (which has a different door latch from the S4)?

Thanks,

Jason

PS-Just noticed I made second gear-that’s 50 pointless posts you’ve all had to deal with!

Hi Jason

I’m about to start rebuilding window assemblies for 36/6453 as well. PM me offline and I’ll tell you how I’m approaching it as a first timer.

I’m in the SF Bay Area.

Hello, I had to do this decades ago and it wasn’t too bad. Having a shop manual of course is nearly an essential, or at least the diagram of the cable route. I removed the assembly from the car, repaired it, put it back in and all was fine. Do you have a shop manual?

Jason,
Having just completed this very task I have one piece of good advise…definately get a diagram for the layout or take a good look when you pull the window out. Here is the best advise I got from someone way back …when you wind the new wire on to the track leave the wire off of one pulley in the routing, and tighten it all up…then when it is relatively snug, by hand or leverage pull the wire back over the pulley to make a nice tight snug fit. This is so much easier than trying to make it tight while attaching to the winder…hope this helps
