Electric vacuum headlight valve

Does anyone know of a way to repair the headlight vacuum valve, I’ve taken it apart and the rubber teet has perished. Has anyone successfully repaired one or know of an alternative cost effective solution. I have not priced one up yet but I sincerely doubt that its cheap.

As far as I know, the headlamp vacuum valve is now unavailable anywhere new, so unless you’re lucky enough to find a good second -hand one (and they’re like hen’s teeth, 'cos people who have spares tned to hang on to them), you’ll either have to fix your existing valve or use an electric solenoid valve.

I’ve fitted a solenoid valve from Paul Matty Sports Cars, which works great. I’ve re-wired my car so that the solenoid activates and the headlamps come up as soon as you switch the sidelights on, but PMSC also do an electric switch that replaces the standard ‘pull’ valve switch, if you want to retain the standard arrangement. The bits are not at all cheap, though - over ?100 from PMSC, if I remember correctly. You can source vacuum solenoids cheaper elsewhere, but you might find that getting the right vaccuum connectors to plumb the system up takes a bit of research.

I picked up a Borg Warner catalog at my local parts store and found an emission control solenoid with the same functionality (common port - port A - port B). The size is a bit small so it takes a bit longer than I would like to “fill” and vent, but it works reliably and was quite cheap, maybe $15. If you can find a BW catalog on line, I think you will be able to find one. It would take a while to dig out the part number but I will if you need it.
