Elan won’t start

Hi All,

My elan has been sat for a months while the new garage was being built. Now it’s done I’ve tried to start her up but no luck.

Replaced the fuel, Webber carb jest seem clear fuel gets through, spark is there on all plugs from the electronic ignition.

Car did run with electronic ignition before it was stored while garage being built.

She refuses to fire up, I’m at a loss

Please help

Hi
Fuel deteriorated. Drain and refuel with fresh petrol
first step.

John

Hi John, yeah I thought that so drained and replaced with fresh fuel.

Hi,
Have you cleaned the contacts in the distributor cap? Corrosion can affect the strength of the spark.
Mark

Bradex “Easy Start” sprayed directly into the carbs with the throttle fully open !

If you’re in Gazza, there could be other issues. Hope your okay

check you have fuel in the carbs. The float valves can gum up and stick closed

And do that by taking the cover off one of the carbs and checking that the float bounces up and down when you poke it, ( carefully…), with a thin wire. If it doesn’t, you’re not getting fuel through.
Then pull a plug wire, hook it onto a spare plug that’s resting on the cam cover, use the push up button on the bottom of the starter solenoid, and see if you’re getting a spark.

Ralph.
