Elan vs MX5

For Elan lovers watch number 27 on YouTube where he compares the Elan with a Mk1 MX5. To say he is blown away by the Elan is a bit of an understatement!

Thanks for the heads up, I will check it out.

Have to say though, his whiny voice irritates me…

I just got this post, can you give a link to the video?

I’ve been hanging back, but I’ve got to comment. I drove my first Elan in '67 and I’ve had my current car for 34 years and I still feel as enthused as that guy every time I get behind the wheel. My voice may even go up an octave trying to explain the experience. I enjoyed the video thanks.

Thanks for the link. I agree with webbslinger, I’ve had my car for 54 years & still get a smile on my face when I drive it. My friends that I take for a ride in it are surprised at the performance & the ride quality. Not a bad design that is over 60 years old.

After 41 years with my Sprint I still experience the same emotions described above whenever I go out for a drive!

And just reached 4th gear after 16 years on the forum. Slow but steady progress!

That’s why you should never sell them !

Well I’ve just turned 50. I’ve had my MX-5 for 25 years. It’s 30 years old and immaculate. I’ve just bought my first Elan without even driving it! All you long term owners talked me into it. I just love looking at it!
I’ll watch the video.

While this video is about the MX5 (Miata), an S2 Elan is featured and highlighted - youtu.be/pdKLZtS2QVY?si=o5QIU_RS3Ex8SBUh

Enjoyed the video…thanks.

Why are you watching videos and looking at your Elan in the middle of summer, get out there and drive it!

I got my first Elan in Feb of "66, have gone thru many Lotus since, now driving a Sprint. The Elan is still the lightest car to drive.

I’ll watch the video.

Believe it or not, I find summer generally too hot for open top driving. Although in the last few days I’ve been in an Elan for a late afternoon drive, and was lucky enough to drive my friends S2 Super Seven yesterday. Both were awesome.
I can’t wait to get my Elan on the road. Not much to do.

I know how you feel. Between a closed car with no aircon (+2) and a motorbike, every season except summer is my funtime! Here in the southeastern part of USA summers are really brutal, very hot with enough humidity to make the air feel like hot soup. I’ve seen fog in valleys here on 76F/24C mornings from the extreme humidity. I leave the toys parked usually from early June to mid-September, give or take depending on conditions. They’re just no fun when the sweat pours down like rivers inside my shirt.

As Dan is still getting his rego’d, I took him out in mine for a “reminder” spin the other day  Sadly no photos as we were having too much fun…
