Elans at the factory
Marvellous! I can’t recall seeing any/many colour photos of Cheshunt. Thanks.
Tim
This is from the 1966 London Rally, which ran June 23-25. The only Lotus Elan on the entry was Ian Walker and Terry Hunter.

There are some really interesting details to be seen in that photo. Some cars are badged on the rear flank, while others are badged on the front wing. The completed cars (those with wheels fitted) in the foreground all appear to be LHD, so export cars presumably. The cars without wheels appear to be completed bodies only i.e. I can’t see any evidence that they are on chassis, does anyone know why? I’m sure there’s a story to this photo to explain what looks like a logistical nightmare at the factory.

The photo was taken the day the taxman visited the factory. Or it might have been the old FIA doing an homologation count.
The car park was purposely rammed with cars, bodies on dollies and anything else that made it look as if the factory were churning out tons of cars.

atthelimit, it looks like many of the cars have some sort of i.d. sticker in the lower part of the windscreen, left side. I blew up the photo but it got really grainy to tell what it is. Maybe someone with better technology can view the stickers. I should point out that a similar picture with 1965 GT350s taken outside the ‘factory’ and many were i.d’ed using some blowup technology.
The cars badged on the rear flank are “Monday” cars and the ones on the front wing are ‘Wednesday” cars and the ones with no wheels are the dreaded “Friday” cars.
Or could they be customer “kit form cars” to be sent to home builders.
Well that didn’t work!!! Is there a way of loading photos directly from Photoshop onto here?
Unusual Elans
The Moss S.M.A.R.T Elan in period (‘I think at Snetterton) with John Whitmore after the wheel fell off, and the recreation car currently being raced at historic meetings.
The roof on the replica doesn’t stand close comparison with the original!
Agreed! But still a lot of work went into it
