I’ve got an Elan +2S 130/4 1971.
I’m working on making a pre-engage starter motor for the vehicle rather than the old Lucas/ Delco Remy M35G
Does anybody know of a modern starter that is compatible in size with the Elan +2 and so can be adapted?
In the US I believe Nippondenso starters are used but I don’t know which starters are available here in the UK
Burtons (Burtonpower.com)have a reduction gear pre-engaging starter for the TC. I have one in the +2.
A little bit more expensive, but worth every penny.
I am also thinking of fitting a new modern starter motor.
When I visited the Historic autosport show in February their were lots of companys selling modern starter motors for the twin cam of all different makes.
I think there are different versions depending on whether you fit it to the Ford Cortina/escort twincams or the Elan twin cam as the Ford has the wider sump pan.
Prices were ?150 upwards

I hadn’t looked at Burton Power before.
In the US they’re on offer for US$175 + US$45 P&P Airmail so the price is about the same to import to the UK.
I just wondered what the basic starter they use is. Maybe I’ll give Burton power a ring…
