Early +2 windscreen rubber

Hi,

Hopefully someone can help with this one. I’m re-building a '68 +2 from a box of bits and not sure about the fit of the windscreen seal. Is it one continuous length of seal or is it cut and beveled together at the bottom corners like the rear is? I think it should be one continuous length but would like to be sure before going to far!!

Regards,

Alex

Alex,
Yes it is one length. Make sure you do not cut it short otherwise when it shrinks you will have a gap.

Alex,

I had recently installed my sons +2S rear glass and the seal was one length wihich I carefully cut mitter corners and dry fit to the glass. Left a little long and then super glued together as one continuous part. Then put rubber on the lip of car and installed the glass with the aid of some silicone sray. It went into place very easily. I don’t know if the front will use a filler strip to hold glass but if it does this is the one to watch the length as it will shortten with sunlight over time. I left ours about 1/2" long and forced it to go into place. It was reasonalbly soft and would allow for the extra length. The old one that was removed and was the original had about 1/2" gap.
I know this is not the front but should work in similar manner. Pats +2S has a different style of front gasket, all chrome.

As an aside: MacGregor in Canada can supply the seal and strip for those in N. America. He knows the cars well and has all manner of seals.

Hi all,

Thanks for the advice. I managed to get both fron and rear fitted yesterday, squeezing extra length into both to allow for shrinkage. I found years ago on one of my other cars - Morris Minor - that washing up liquid works well as a lubricant. It won’t damage the rubber and dries well once in place.
