Duckhams Colour - Classic 20/50

Hi all,

Hope you and your cars are well!

Changed my oil today…using my usual Duckhams Classic Mineral Oil (20w/50).

While filling I noticed that the oil was not the normal Duckhams Green!

Instead it was more akin to a whiskey or tea brown (amber?).

Have Duckhams changed their oil or is it something else???

Bought the oil from my usual motor factors.
Still have an older container of the 20w/50 in the garage (emergency stash…you can never have too much oil!) and it appears to be green…

Strange…

Hi Peter,

Ahhh…good old Duckhams. Used to get through so much I’d buy it in 20 litre drums.
In this part of the world, (N.Z.), hasn’t been green for years.

Guess they figured they could save a few dollars on the dye.

Ralph.

Thats going to confuse me.
I used to be able to colour code the leaks on my classics.
Blue- anti freeze
Red- power steering
Brown- gearbox and diff
Green- engine oil.

“Life was simpler then”.

I bought some recently and it’s green…from eBay, a chap does 4 x 4.5 litre cans for ?40. Most importantly Peter, does it still SMELL the same!!!

‘Does it smell the same?’

Don’t think so. Definitely smells of oil, but not sure it smells the same as before…

The Plot Thickens…

Peter,
I bought some a month or so ago from a factors in Carlow and it was green.

Duckhams is I believe owned by Castrol so presumably they use what ever they feel like.
