door locks

I have recently bought a '72 +2 which has (to my eyes) really unusual circular doorlocks (see attached pictures)- one of whih doesn’t work. I’ll delve into the insides of the door but wonder - are these the correct locks? Or are they some strange thing fitting by a previos owner?

Thanks

Hi

Yes the handles are correct unless you have a 1967 or early 1968 car in which case they are not.

These handles are from a Series 1+2 Jaguar XJ, have a look on ebay Item number: 310070582211. I bought 4 handles in mint condition for ?7, at that price I had to have them even though mine are good

The door lock is not original, it is a after market high security lock we used to fit on work vans in the 1990’s. It was sold on the fact that you could not put a screwdriver in it and force it like the original ones. I can and have opened my +2 with a wire coathanger so no need for added security.

Pic of my lock attached.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the very fast & helpful response, I’ll fiddle around inside and get the jammed lock to work!

Hi New to +2,

I have much the same problem with a similar deadlock on a +0.

If you have time, a picture showing the linkage from the lock to the door pull would be useful … particularly, the orientation of the cam on the lock.

Many thanks.

Stuart.

A couple of people have asked for photos of the insides of the doorlock mechanism - so here is one! Hope it helps

attachment didn’t work - try again

Thanks for the photo … hopefully it’ll help me out.

Stuart.

These people http://www.faparkes.co.uk/ actually supply new locks for the doors with are identical to the originals complete with new keys etc !! all fr about 6 Quid !!

Thye are under Locks & Lock Cylinders / Cam / comp Key Op

You can get then with straight or cranked operating levers etc

Hope this helps you

Should the +2 have a metal shim fitted inside the door skin to prevent the glassfibre from cracking-like the Elan does?
