I realize I can scroll down, but with 600+ posts it will take over a week… there should be a quicker way to get to the latest post = last, or sort newest first.
This is what i have been going on about previouslyI
I though have now at last found the answer…It has only taken me 6weeks to find it!
Click on the time or day and it takes you to the last post!..i.e Where it says say, 40min ago, if you click on the actual figure ‘40m’ it will take you to the last post in the thread…Absolute magic!
Alan.
I’m doing exactly as I did on the old version. Hover over “forums” at the top of the page, then click on “latest topics” in the dropdown box. Those with new postings that I haven’t read are in bold, and with a quick scroll down I can find something of interest. I find it easier than searching via the separate “discussions”.
Mike
Yes, by clicking on the activity timer (red circle) will take you to the last post int he topic.
Purple = Where you last read
Green = First post of the topic
Red = Last post of the topic

Here is a short video on the Latest View. I walk through how I use the forums latest view and what all the colors and dots mean.
Brilliant Alan, many thanks!
That was my major gripe removed…
Just to say a big thanks to Jeff as someone who recently retired from the IT industry I know what a nightmare running a public website can be. Running older software that struggles in a world with multiple devices, browsers, screen sizes, HTML/CSS/Javascript versions etc. is to no ones benefit. I also don’t know what database, development frameworks etc. the software uses as these tend to come and go as the rate of change in the software industry marches on leaving older software unmaintainable.
We should also not forget all the backend processes us end users do not see to maintain the site. More up to date software normally improves such things as maintainability, security, availability, scalability and performance.
From an upgrade point of view it went incredibly smoothly, in my 40+ years experience that is a great achievement. Even recently a company like Microsoft managed to bring down part of their cloud services due to an upgrade so don’t anybody underestimate the planning and attention to detail an upgrade takes.
I’m a basic user of the site and for me it’s very usable and I did not require any training to access what I needed so I am a happy bunny. There will always be a few detailed features that will take some time for the more sophisticated users to adjust to. Before calling for the return of the old site I would urge people to step back and consider the whole picture of running the website or maybe just take over Jeff’s job for a few weeks ![]()
Jeff, I do not envy your job as your users fall into the demographic that least like change, you have my greatest of respect and many thanks for a great job.
I am a recent member and had not become familiar with the old format so that a change was not a big deal for me , but I did have some login problems after the change which Jeff quickly helped me with and sorted out. It must be a pretty thankless task changing something that people have got used to, so I for one will do a little bit in return and say thanks to Jeff for all his efforts.
Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the video on how to use ‘Latest’ .
However I would just like to make the point that the video shows and assumes we are logged in to the website when viewing the forum.
I think quite a few of us view the forum on a regular basis without actually being being logged in and only ‘log in’ when posting a comment or question. Therefore they don’t see quite the same page that you show in the video. Most of the icons you discuss are not shown. That page I think only shows when actually logged in and even then does not show all the mentioned icons.
At least that how it is on my computer which probably does show slightly different anyway me being still on Windows 10 and not Windows 11 which I think you are on.
The above observation may be complete rubbish but just how things show for me.
Alan.
Can you help me understand why you don’t log in or stay logged in?
I am asking because the ranking system uses all the values in the user profile summary.
Key data used in the ranking are:
- Days visited
- Read Time
- Topics Viewed
- Posts Read
- Topics Created
- Posts Created
- Likes Given
- Likes Received
If you are not logged in, the system cannot credit your account for your involvement.
Jeff,
Personally I, and I believe other users are similar, we only ‘log in’ when seeing something to reply/ comment/ or ask a question on.
I visit and are a registered user of at least ten forums, most of which are connected with either cars or light aircraft, and I visit nearly all of them daily for a quick scan to see what interests me. I wouldn’t want to be logged in to them all permanently. Or log in to them every time I visit.
Maybe I use forums differently to most people but that is the way I have always used them.
Alan.
I suppose the feature I miss, and find myself unable to overcome is, identification.
Just because one hasn’t read a thread since last visited, doesn’t mean one wants to read it. But, now we are sort of forced.
Whereas before, the name/avatar of the poster would show. I am sure like many here, I like to read certain persons perspective, as one chap may know more about body, another might be better with boxes or engines… further if there are two very similar topics, I suppose you can maybe tell by the amount of replies, but it’s not conclusive.
Or maybe I am not looking on a big enough screen (most of the time?), or need to adjust my preferences or….?
Thank You!
Why not have the login on the home page?
Two different software products that run the homepage and the forums. Most regulars come directly to the forums.
without doubt the most confusing awkward looking and awkward to use forum interface ive used… the term only a mother could love it applies … im sure the code writer loves it… but for its sooooo frustrating
Agree it’s different than the old. The remarkable thing is how well all of the records transferred over without turning into spaghetti. When I log on, I click on “Latest” and read the first post, then scroll down to the next latest one and so on…
Its amazing how people see thing in different ways. I love the new forum. Stylish and highly functional.
Eye of the beholder i guess
Tim
Better and better each time i use it.
Many thanks Jeff.
Alan
I am still unable to see who first posted the thread, under topics, or search. There are so many similar topics, without seeing who posted the topic.
It would be great if the original posters name/avatar could be on the very left or at least shown please!
Or maybe in the expanded format it shows the avatar of original poster. My pardon
