Have been tinkering today, was building up a front water pump cover the project car. I checked the dipstick tube and found it some 20mm lower than the manual says. Sorted this and decided to check my S4. When I put this together 2yrs ago I did not find the page in the manual that gives the 115mm dimension, so was not checked. I was alramed to find this low by about 21mm. Pulled the alt’ and have removed cleaned and refitted the tube with loctite. Got about 3/4 to 1 pint more oil in. I feel a bit of a prat but am pleased.
Looked a load of book pics and see that the top of the tube comes well past the bolt on the front cover, so am happy I have done somthing.
Miles book does not give the dims but does say check it!
Mike
So,while you’ve got the front cover off,and one on to compare with, what are the oil levels, max and fill, vertically from thecentre line(bottom of the block),please
Thanks
John
I will have look tonight. I will put the front cover against the block and measure from centre down with dip stick in. Is this what you are after, so you know where the oil levels are in the pan?
I measured with the dipstick in the front water pump cover. The stick is a 105E 6752B (correct by the Robinshaw/Ross book). The tube is set at 115mm from the bottom of the ally sump flange to the centre of the angle. The following measurements were taken:
From the ally flange down the sump to the stick full mark is about 85mm…
From the ally fange down the sump to the stick fill mark is about 103mm.
