I believe so. Workshop is full of F1 cars of that era and RS200s
I will ask Alex when I next see him.
Gitanes sponsored Ligier.
Following the initial startup using a remote switch, I had my wiring/ECU guru come over and sort out a few issues and wire up various bits including the start button. The engine sounds a lot better than on the video
We restricted throttle response to 20% until my tuning guru sets it up properly as it is only fitted with a basic MAP.
OK, I didn’t realise that this forum is populated by anoraks
But, then again, being Elan nuts I shouldn’t be surprised.
Yes, cars are a Pacific (Alex couldn’t remember driver) and a Ligier (driven by Nicola Larini)
Steve,
All I can say is WOW! Your fabrication and composite skills are amazing. I joined the forum a couple of years ago but never saw this thread until you re-posted. Your skills are beyond compare.
Thanks for sharing them with us all.
Jim
Thanks, but my skills are so-so. There are many people on here with way better skills than me, I’m just a jobbing, self taught bodger whose work looks good from a distance. I am in awe of some of the work done on here and other sites.
Good evening all. I trust that you all had a reasonable Christmas and survived the family meal times ![]()
I haven’t been in the garage since the 17th but I managed to escape for a couple of hours today in order to recover my sanity ![]()
Whilst tidying up the countersinks in the rear wing support brackets I kept looking at the holes in the boot lid. As they were similar to the ones I extended in the rear panel I thought that it would be wrong not to do the same with these. 30grams later job complete.
Hi Steve
I have to echo some of the sentiments expressed by others on this thread. I am in awe of your tenacity and creativeness in equal amounts. You have followed your heart and made it work. You don’t see this level of dedication very often. I am just about to start putting a Europa together (and shaking down my Zetec +2) and I will be approaching both with a different and improved attitude having read through your story. I’m a pretty positive person and always thought that anything is possible. Now I know its true.
All the best, and I look forwards to seeing the car in real life at a show or gathering sometime soon!
Thank you for sharing.
Berni
Don’t know how to respond to this, other than thanks Berni.
Unlikely that you will see it at a show as they aren’t my thing. However, it will be at Santa Mod and Manston next year (hopefully).
I may, however, turn up at a few Lotus meets just to see the reactions ![]()
Let us know when you start a thread on here.
Hey Steve
A show will do. Just have to see the car at some stage! It’s funny how different people have different priorities whilst loving the same thing. We can all admire dedication and ingenuity though. I have Lotus friends where its all about the cleaning and originality. For me its just the whole experience and the handling. I don’t need much power, but I sure am lazy about braking for the corners.
All the best
Berni
It does amuse me a little when people talk about originality, but Lotus fitted whatever was in the parts bin at the time of assembly. It started off as a kit car afterall ![]()
Braking for most corners is optional.
OK, new year, new start.
Got to grips with the windscreen fitting yesterday. I had added a cardboad spacer around the perimeter held on with sellotape but this was starting to unglue so I ripped it off and started again. Used tiny drops of glue and masking tape and buffed it with mould releasing wax.
Although it has been on and off many times before I reckon that the cold temps had shrunk the poly slightly so a lot of the screws argued about being fitted but, eventually, they all saw my point of view. I hadn’t persuaded all of them when I took the photos.
The fit is better than I thought it would be, so very little filler will be required. The fit looks worse than it is due to to the cardboad lifting in places, but this isn’t an issue as it will be pushed back into place by the P40. I have seen many screens fitted that have a worse fit but I can’t leave it the way it is. No wonder this project is taking so effing long!
Friggin scary Rohan.
been following this for years. Not really much of an Elan left except the concept of lightness but interesting all the same
True, that wasn’t the original plan but over the very long build time it succumbed to mission creep ![]()
Forgot to put the garage heaters on this morning so didn’t get out there until later on in the day. Started on shaping the windscreen surround to match the poly. However, it was still rather chilly so the P40, even with double the recommended hardener in it, was reluctant to cure so I only got the first layer on. I will carry on with it tomorrow. I know, the weight ![]()
One of the downsides of making stuff light is that it is easy to sand your way to the other side. The roof is 2 layers thick so I managed to make a small hole whilst sanding the filler to shape. However, easily fixed with P40. Not the first time and probably not the last ![]()
The moment of truth, will the screen release?
