Thanks for the comment about a plastic pad. I am ashamed to admit that although I have probably had the micrometer 20 years I have never noticed a plastic pad. I had given up with this Mitutoyo and reverted to my old analogue micrometer. When I get out of hospital I will look at the Mitutoyo again.

Is the material connecting the H webs the same thickness for the two connecting rods?
