Cabriolet +2 for sale on eBay

Hello
Looks like a scam to me…
ebay.co.uk/itm/251654407227

Terry

Hmmmm! It does look too good to be true, but the seller states cash on collection or bank transfer.

I also just did a check online for the vehicles tax status using its registration number PNT 817G and it agrees with the advert on the expiry date https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/.

I don’t want one, but it may well be worth somebody’s time to carefully enquire using the supplied London telephone number (not a mobile), could well be a true bargain.

Or maybe the price is a typo!

We could all chip in and make millions!

Terry

Same car sold in August on ebay for ?8200 in Scotland - identical pictures on listing.

ebay.co.uk/itm/Lotus-Elan-Pl … 1502631300

We’re not going to make millions :frowning:

Unfortunately the cash on collection would seem a little worrying. What a terrible world we live in.

No doubt the original advert was reproduced in its entirety, hence it looked correct to me apart from that price.
It still amazes me the number of people that buy cars on EBay sight unseen, perhaps the scammers take advantage of that.

Terry,
unless my memory is failing me which is possible you have bought Lotus cars not seen in the past

Er well er well um all of them!
2 x Elan +2. ( 1 on eBay, 1 from garage web site)
Elan LHD (Craigslist)
Caterham Seven (pistonheads)

hi Terry,
to be honest i have done the same with an Elan +2, TVR S3, TVR 1600M and a little with the last one TVR 3000S :unamused: but then love is blind   i just love classic cars

Too be honest I think it’s all part of being in France. You can’t really do it any other way.
Terry

Salut

Well, I live in France and:

  • took the train to the north of France
  • took the train to Belgium
  • took Easyjet to Denmark
  • took Easyjet to Bristol

… all to see cars. I did combine a romantic weekend in Denmark and a visit to my Mum in Bristol for the latter - well, it would have been a romantic weekend if the missus had changed her maiden name to married name on her passport - they wouldn’t let her on the plane - thought that counts, though

You live in the north!
I bet they speak with a funny french accent up there!

Terry

That’s a bit rich, Terry - we must live roundabout the same latitude.

This looks a bargain from Paul Matty. I wonder if the pictures are correct!
Terry

That looks to be good to be true - I suppose s/o conversion means that it was a Stromberg engine originally, but still … I’d buy blind if I had the room
