I’ve just had my Sprint sprayed. Before i repaired some damage in Gelcoat. On the left Wing where the Battery had tapped the Wing and caused Cracks on the outside in Gelcoat. No problem i repaired as Saint Miles says in his book.
But i don’t want it to happen again.
So how have you Boys installed the Battery.

I have a type 51 battery in my S3 sitting in a plastic tray that is bolted to the shelf. The battery is strapped to the
tray. I have a piece of closed cell foam between the batter and wing, just in case. I’m not happy with
this arrangment and would like to find a battery with the ‘lips’ at the bottom to utilize the oem hold downs,
which is the arrangement I have in my Sprint and it’s very solid.
I’m anxious to here other answers here.
Yes, you don’t seem to find the batteries with the flange on the bottom anymore so, with a similar arrangement on the +2, with a bobbin in the bottom of the battery area, I made a Z shaped piece that goes to the bottom up the side of the battery and then it’s insulated and captures the top of the battery, Gordon
There should be thick underfelt glued to the inside of the rear wings which prevents body damage from the battery or loose objects in the boot. I use the original type 038 battery and the original hold down clamp brackets. My battery sits on a flat piece of ply, there is no recess, which I don’t think is standard and I found the battery would move laterally over time. To overcome that I added a strap around the base. I also made a simple cover for the battery which just clips under the boot lid gutter.
Hope that helps.
I had in my garage stock of old parts a set of hold down clamps like these ebay.co.uk/itm/291497582907 … R-bNvML_Yg
I drilled a hole into each of the original clamps to accept the hook of each new clamp. A sort of belt and braces approach you might say.
If you don’t want to drill your originals, you could make a couple of lugs to sit under the original clamps for the new ones to attach to.
Thanks SMO,
I like that idea. I have original Clamps and Belt +Braces appeals to me.
Cheers

Very neat solution, well done. A nice battery decal for the outside would look great,
