50/0478 or is it?

I have a plus 2 with chassis no 50/0478 or so I thought

However on further stripping down the car I have found two instances where the chassis number 468 is written in crayon. One on the underside of the bonnet under the sound pad, and the other on the inside of the passenger door skin.

I haven’t got to the drivers door yet.

Anyone else had similar experiences?

Cheers
Jon

Yes, my car is serial number 2192 but the doors are for 2182!

…and I found the correct number written on tape on the back of the glove box.

Time to search this site and read…

google.com/search?q=%22body+ … rt=10&sa=N

lots of boring posts about body numbers and the like.

Hi

Mine is scratched into the inside of the doors and also in the engine bay (see pics).

Is that 71?..Looks a bit suspect to me,mine is in a similar place but embedded “dymo-tape”

John

Hi Jon,
now you come to mention it…
both doors and bulkhead record 784. the plate and log book from early 70’s all have 50/734 and the engine number LP12044LBA matches this. There’s no mistaking the 8s for 3s on the doors and bulkhead…
i had a look on replacement galvanised chassis to see if there was any number but haven’t found one yet…

Ha I wish, its 0971, I pealed the dymo-tape off and the number is embedded in the fibreglass

I found the same red dymo tape buried under several resprays worth of paint.

And the crayon in the doors and under bonnet.

I’ll try to preserve this during the restoration.

I wonder why they didn’t use the body number as the commission number?

This is how it looked yesterday

Cheers
Jon

Pic of my door markings with 971.

I feel my number is slightly out as well as the engine number matches a slightly different body number.

The current chassis number is an entirely different story. Spyder chassis in the 1980’s you know the rest.

By the way wow :astonished: :astonished: I am very jealous of your garage Jon.

Rich if you have a Spyder chassis the number is on the top of the front cross-member.

Jason

I am going to start a new post for this as I think there is another question that may clear this up.

Does your body number match your chassis number?

Jason

hi Jason,

looking at front crossmember i find no number ,
someone mentioned looking on to of chassis by exhaust manifold… didn’t find one there either
It’s definitely a galvanised replacement chassis.

Hi Rich

Sorry I have a Spyder chassis so do not know where the Lotus one is, there’s a pic attached of where a Spyder one is, not really very helpful but interesting?
