Can anyone give me the definitive way round that the 3 eared spinners on
26R magnesium wheels/bronze hubs should be.
The factory manual refers to left hand thread on left hand side & vise versa (also referring to green (rh thread) on right & red (lh thread) on left)–page 5 G3.
However on the original factory spec sheet for 26R(issued 20th september 1963)
they refer to the left hand threaded hubs being fitted to the RIGHT hand side of the car.
I’m sure the left should be on the right & the right on left,so to speak, but having seen the factory manual has made me nervous!
I have knock ons on my S4 FHC. I mounted the KO so they LH & RH tighten counter clockwise. ie to front of car. The car’s forward motion keeps them tight. I bought a 3 eared KO socket from Baum Tools to torque them on too. No problems.

Phil and others are correct on threads for standard Elans, which are mounted the reverse of other UK sports cars such as MG’s, etc. Those cars have splines vs. drive pins, so the opposite applies with them.
If you’re not sure 26R is the same, contact Tony Thompson Racing, as they have much experience plus sell 26R replica KO wheels:
I also have the socket from Baum Tool in Sarasota, Florida. I took an Elan spinner to them to model it and received the first one. It beats the heck out of beating the heck out of your spinners! Here’s their site:
