That’s the only 47 I have seen with bumpers and BTW, they made more than one lHD 47 according to the registry.
Thanks for the correction — that was what the owner told me at the time.
Current pics of the blue one show it without bumpers, I wondered about that myself.
What are these things doing in a 26R thread? ![]()

My apologies for being OT.
After viewing the 47 registry, it’s too bad that a similar site doesn’t exist for the 26R. Some of the documentation and race history is quite interesting.
I realise that discrepancies would occur, but some history is better than none.
I took these in 1995 at Monterey, there was a lot of interesting Lotus Cars there that year. I think 3 of the type under discussion here.

Note the illegible S/N on this one: race-cars.com/carsales/lotus … 7664ss.htm
Maybe someone can refine the pic, and see the numbers
A few more shots of the same car: vprace.com/carsales/lotus_26r.htm
Nickel’s car was very nice, I have a big poster of it on my garage wall. ![]()
Gil’s car had a twin cam in it that sounded like no other I ever heard. The speed at which it spun-up was un-real and the sound, a bit different as well. That car was evil fast and I have heard first hand account how that thing would get up and walk away from cars that it should not have on long straights were and elan typically does not excel…
The green over white car looks very much like the one Alain De Cadenet drives in the Victory By Design / Lotus DVD.
At Race Retro today there were two 26Rs for sale, both with the same price. The red one is John Miles’ car, the yellow one as described.
There were one hell of a lot of cars for sale; normally the fabulous creatures are on display by their owners, this time it was the auction houses who had the best stuff- sign of the times?
My advice; sit on your hands and snap up the bargains in 12 months. ![]()
perhaps the sharing of information here has something to do with this ----wait a awhile and perhaps pick up a racing elan very reasonably –

- was there, saw that…and went away…!
I can understand that people may pay a lot for well known cars with interesting history, but this must be all time high for a 26R ???
