Based upon experience gained from racing Elan’s and the Rally prototype, Lotus offered the Elan SE in 1966. The engine: 115 b.h.p. high lift can version of the Lotus 1558 c.c twin overhead camshaft unit. Modified Weber carburetors, new chokes and jets, four branch exhaust into ceramic headers, all stainless exhaust. Transmission: Rear axle ratio 3.55:1 mated to Lotus-Ford semi close ratio gearbox giving recommended gear change speeds of 1st 40 mph, 2nd 60 mph, 3rd 85 mph. Acceleration 1-60 6.8 sec. Maximum speed 120 mph (6,750 rpm) Touring fuel consumption 26+mpg. Lotus knock on wheels with chrome trims, revised rear shocks for improved high speed handling. Interior: All Black. Original inertia real safety belts, leather covered steering wheel. Bodywork: Brilliant Red with chrome strips along body side, SE motifs, Indianapolis and World Championships badges. Silver bumpers. New Black convertible top. New Black tonneau cover. New car cover. New tires. Galvanized Lotus chassis. Immaculate engine compartment. NEEDS NOTHING.
